The dark knight rises..

So i finally got chance to see this last night, and it was very good. i had trouble believing that the three films weren't written as a trilogy. It was perfect. the surprise twist was every bit as good as the first twist from batman begins.

It raises the question with any adaption. How close do you need to stay to the source material? this film lends plot elements from Knightfall, no mans land and the dark knight returns yet it is not a direct adaption of any of them? even the characters of Blake and Miranda borrow elements from comic book characters. ( whew spoiler free)

What alot of fanboys fail to take into account is that they are not seeing the movie version of a story, they are seeing an ADAPTION. certain things from the 4 colour published super hero world do not transfer well to the celluloid screen. Catwomen is present and fully realised, she is never referred to as such in the film. Her costume as a thief carries some night vision goggles which when pushed back gives the illusion of ears. easier to explain as to why a grown woman career criminal is slinking round dressed up like a hen do reject.

The trilogy worked because Christopher Nolan was allowed to let the source material breathe for itself, it was grounded it the really world while incorporating the fantastic. With marvel announcing that the upcoming Iron Man and Captain America films will be based on the Extremis and Winter Soldier story lines, the lessons from the Nolan verse can be applied.

Adaption not imitation

Use what you need, leave what you don't

Believe in the vision.
