The dark knight rises..

So i finally got chance to see this last night, and it was very good. i had trouble believing that the three films weren't written as a trilogy. It was perfect. the surprise twist was every bit as good as the first twist from batman begins.

It raises the question with any adaption. How close do you need to stay to the source material? this film lends plot elements from Knightfall, no mans land and the dark knight returns yet it is not a direct adaption of any of them? even the characters of Blake and Miranda borrow elements from comic book characters. ( whew spoiler free)

What alot of fanboys fail to take into account is that they are not seeing the movie version of a story, they are seeing an ADAPTION. certain things from the 4 colour published super hero world do not transfer well to the celluloid screen. Catwomen is present and fully realised, she is never referred to as such in the film. Her costume as a thief carries some night vision goggles which when pushed back gives the illusion of ears. easier to explain as to why a grown woman career criminal is slinking round dressed up like a hen do reject.

The trilogy worked because Christopher Nolan was allowed to let the source material breathe for itself, it was grounded it the really world while incorporating the fantastic. With marvel announcing that the upcoming Iron Man and Captain America films will be based on the Extremis and Winter Soldier story lines, the lessons from the Nolan verse can be applied.

Adaption not imitation

Use what you need, leave what you don't

Believe in the vision.

Astonishing spiderman and wolverine

I've just finished reading this,

womp!

What a series! I'll try and discuss this and keep spoilers to a minimum!. i picked up the first issue when it was originally published but fell aside with the Bimonthly publishing schedule. Initially that first issue did do grab me, i was expecting a buddy comedy with peter and Logan, but them being time displaced didn't float my boat.

Ive never been so glad to be wrong.

sure it takes peter and Logan into strange territory, it was 100% different to what i wanted  but that was  the real strength. Both characters are brilliantly realised and well written. their flaws, origins and voices are there. By removing them from continuity its accessible for the casual reader as well as the obsessive. With a few twinks i think that it would make an amazing film ( although i think Andrew Garfield is to young to play this peter).

i read this on marvel digital comics unlimited and this is going into my basket for amazon, its a keeper!

Fight or Flight?

How do we handle conflict? flight or fight is the process of hyper arousal ( no titters). it's how we respond to threats as human beings and has stayed with us from our days as monkey fish from the primordial ooze!

so that's the quandary i find myself in. Do i continue to fight for something that just isn't working ( and i have no real desire for) or fly?. Normally flight is the easier option, as it means running away from a threat or problem. In this case to stay is to remain passive and to fly is to choose an active path.

I have a future and this is the first time flight has been a realistic option, but in the long run to stay and fight might be the better option.

sometimes the most difficult option can be deciding.

So far so good...

OK, cant really get the hang of Wednesday nights. For the past 3 years Ive been at college so its almost like muscle memory.

I've spent the day in rehab, where i work as a person centred counsellor on a Wednesday. I must stress that this is as a volunteer at the moment. ah well paid work is on the horizon!

I've got a copy of the Elmo documentary on DVD so i may curl up with that later, post a review on here later
